Davenham Parish Council

Davenham Parish Council covers a large area of mid-Cheshire between Northwich, Hartford and Winsford and includes the Village of Davenham and the Hamlet of Whatcroft. It is responsible for overseeing, advising and taking decisions on many aspects of village life. The Parish Council is the first tier of local government and members are elected every four years. Occasionally we co-opt members when people retire from the council for various reasons such as if they move away from the area. The Council's key role is to represent the interests of local residents and to lobby those authorities that do have the power and responsibility to get things done such as the Cheshire West and Chester Council and as the Council is a democratically elected body their voice is always listened to. In this Parish we are responsible for developing and maintaining the various playing fields that we own, making sure that planning applications are consistent with the character of the area, monitoring the state of public footpaths and the general natural environment, ensuring that litter is properly dealt with, and being the first port of call for community groups and initiatives for support in financial or advisory matters. We also employ (jointly with our neighbour, Moulton Parish Council) a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) whose responsibilities and powers are detailed on this website.

Meetings are held on the last Monday of each month* in the Committee Room of Davenham Methodist Church

*except when this falls on a Bank Holiday in which case the meeting is held on the preceding Monday. The Council does not usually meet in August or December

Meetings start at 7:30pm and are open to the public and press however the public is not allowed to participate in the meeting.

Residents of the Parish may raise matters with the council for discussion prior to the meeting from 7:15pm

but due to legal constraints the council cannot make decisions regarding such matters until the next Council meeting

The Annual Meeting of the Council and the Annual Assembly Meeting are usually held on the same date as the ordinary Council meeting in May.
